BIOGRAPHY

Constance Alexander won a poetry contest in 4th grade and has been writing ever since. Award-winning columnist, playwright, and independent producer of radio documentaries, she is currently Writing a novel, Thirty-One Fat Ladies on a Bus.

The Kentucky Foundation for Women, the Kentucky Arts Council and the Ragdale Foundation have supported several of her writings, including plays that have been professionally produced in this country and at Scotland’s Fringe Festival.

Promises to Keep, a community outreach effort on end-of-life issues, was funded by Sound Partners for Community Health, a program of the Benton Foundation funded by the Robert Wood Johnson; and the Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet.

Constance’s role in Promises to Keep was as independent producer, writer and facilitator of community outreach and partnership efforts. In that capacity she scripted and edited a documentary radio series about end-of-life issues; published more than 60 articles; facilitated community forums and training sessions; and helped organize a range of arts-related activities including poetry readings, art exhibits and plays.

Nominated for a Peabody Award, Promises to Keep was named a semi-finalist for a Batten Award from the Pew Center for Civic Journalism.

In 2000, Constance was named a New Media Fellow by the Newspaper Association of America, one of 16 journalists, nationwide, to be tapped for this honor.

A former AT&T executive, Constance completed her undergraduate work at The College of New Jersey and University of Copenhagen. She has an M.A. in Education, and an MBA in Management is from Pace University, NY.

A community leader, Constance is on the board of the Kentucky Oral History Commission and the Four Rivers Center, a regional arts center. Co-founder and artistic director of the West Kentucky Playwrights Festival, she is an alumni of Leadership Kentucky.

A lifelong New Jersey resident, Constance married artist and coffin maker, Roy Davis in 1988. They live in Murray, Ky, where Roy operates Bert & Bud’s Vintage Coffins and Constance makes her living as a consultant, a writer, independent producer and columnist for The Murray Ledger & Times.
